This is the first year we have offered Nigusse Nare’s coffee on our menu, and it is already a favorite. Lilac aromas partner with juicy raspberry notes, making this coffee elegant yet powerful. A lingering body and flavor that reminds us of eating an orange creamsicle on a hot summer day.

Farmlevel Story


Nigusse Nare’s natural processed coffee is exactly what we love about classic Bombe coffee- strikingly fruit-forward, yet refined. Mr. Nare grows 74158 and 74160 varieties at high elevation that promotes slow cherry maturation. These two selections originate from wild plants in the Metu-Bishari forest in the Illuababora zone in Western Ethiopia, and were stabilized by the famed Jimma research centre. They are prized not only for their resistance to Coffee Berry Disease, but also for their high yield and seed quality. 

Harvest crews make multiple passes on each tree to ensure that only ripe cherries are selected. Harvested cherries are laid to dry on raised beds and gently turned over 5 times daily, to ensure even drying. This even drying is key to locking in nuanced fruity flavors to the seed, which we can amplify through our precision roasting. Don’t be fooled by the small seeds- they are loaded with flavor and juicy mouthfeel! We are excited to offer our first lot from Mr. Nare, and know that fans of juicy and floral Ethiopian coffees will love it as much as we do!
