Farmlevel Story
While growing up in the family coffee business, Mate Mate Matiwos, actually began his career trading local commodities. Once profitable, he switched to coffee farming and leased land to farm in Keramo and Danche. Though relatively new to farming firsthand, his knowledge, professionalism and profound understanding of coffee’s importance to many aspects of Ethiopia’s wellbeing, helped him achieve an impressive 2nd place in the 2024 Ethiopian Cup of Excellence competition.
Continuing the legacy of traditionally natural (or dry) processed coffees, Mate Matiwos has produced another stunning, yet nuanced, representation of coffees from the Bensa region.
In addition to farming, Mate Matiwos is a devoted father of six (three boys and three girls). His eldest son is in university, the second eldest helps on the farm and the youngest is a teacher. As a local preacher and church leader, he’s deeply involved in his community. We’re proud to share his story–and his coffee– with you.
