Behind the Cup

Produced by Leonicio Castellon in Santa Bárbara, this anaerobically processed Catuai benefits from high elevations and slow cherry maturation. Careful fermentation builds sweetness and complexity while preserving balance, creating a coffee defined by lively acidity, lasting sweetness, and a structured finish.

Each coffee is roasted to order. Orders ship within 2 business days.

Farmlevel Story

Leonicio Castellon has been a longtime Verve partner, producing coffee from Finca La Tigra in the mountains of Santa Bárbara. Sitting above 1,700 meters, the farm’s cool temperatures and frequent cloud cover slow cherry maturation, contributing to the sweetness and complexity that have become hallmarks of Leonicio’s coffees.

Beyond coffee production, Leonicio helps maintain the community’s water supply, fed by natural springs in the rainforested national park above his farm. His son, an agronomist, works alongside him, continuing the family’s commitment to both the coffee and the surrounding landscape.
Building on generations of farming experience, Leonicio continues refining processing practices while maintaining the consistency that has made his coffees a favorite year after year. This lot reflects both the enduring partnership between Leonicio and Verve and the distinctive character of high-elevation Santa Bárbara coffee.
