Honduras Jorge Lanza

Just across the street from one of our Farmlevel favorites, Denilson Madrid’s Las Flores, lies La Huerta, Spanish for “The Orchard”. This beautiful farm is owned and operated by Jorge Lanza. While this marks our fourth year offering his coffee as a single origin, Lanza has been a respected figure in the Honduran coffee community for over 30 years.

In 2013, his dedication was recognized when he won Honduras’ Cup of Excellence with a record-breaking score of 92.75 for a washed Parainema lot from La Huerta. This achievement not only showcased the exceptional quality of his coffee but also brought attention to the unique microclimates of the El Cielito Mountain region, home to six of the last eight Cup of Excellence winners.

Lanza’s impact goes beyond farming. He spent over a decade as General Manager of the National Association of Coffee Growers (ANACAFEH), where he helped support producers through technical training, financial resources, and community advocacy.

When Jorge Lanza speaks, his passion is undeniable. He talks about the legacy he hopes to leave for his grandchildren, the importance of sustainability, and his desire to be a positive example for his neighbors. Every farming decision he makes is guided by a deep respect for the land, the craft, and the people around him. He speaks candidly about the hardships of farming, but also about the beauty of working with your hands.
