Behind the Cup

Sweet notes of blackberry and peach shimmer in this balanced blend of Pacas and Pacamara coffee. Grown on his farm, “El Guaco” in Honduras by  Arturo Paz, this coffee is approachable, mild and balanced with a soft floral note that reminds us of orange blossom, perfect for daily drinking.

Each coffee is roasted to order. Orders ship in 1-2 business days.

Farmlevel Story

Arturo Paz comes from a long history of coffee production in Honduras. Starting with his grandfather planting the first coffee trees in Peña Blanca around 60 years ago, the Paz name is now well known throughout the region. Arturo has six different farms spread throughout the Santa Bárbara mountains. This year he placed 7th in Cup of Excellence with a Gesha from his farm “Itacayo”.

The name of the “El Guaco” farm comes from a humorous story he shared with us while on a walk through his beautiful farm. When Arturo Paz was young, his uncle gifted him a horse born on his birthday. His family named it “El Guapo,” meaning “the handsome.” Unfortunately, when the horse was only two years old, it suffered ear damage. The Paz family joked that the horse could no longer be called El Guapo, so they affectionately renamed it “El Guaco,” named after that beloved late horse.

Located in the Santa Barbara region of Honduras, El Guaco is a truly beautiful place, surrounded by lush forests that Arturo Paz diligently works to preserve. This year, he added a wet mill at the heart of the farm, making post-harvest cherry transport easier and reducing the risk of coffee degradation during processing. It’s a testament to his commitment to excellence and consistency.

In addition to coffee, Arturo Paz is a bit of a renaissance man– a college-educated agronomic engineer, experienced cupper, mill designer, and woodworker. He actually crafted the cupping spoon that Kylee uses! We cherish our relationship with Arturo Paz and are excited to offer this Pacas/Pacamara blend with you.
