Behind the cup

This classic, washed Ethiopian coffee comes from the village of Chelchele within Yirgacheffe, a region known for developing nuanced characteristics. We find juicy and sweet notes layered throughout the cup.

Farmlevel Story

We’re excited to bring back this longtime Verve favorite and consistent crowd-pleaser to our coffee line-up. It comes from the kebele (village) of Chelchele, which is in the woreda (district) of Kochere, located in the Yirgacheffe region.

Ethiopian coffees offer incredible diversity of flavor and character, especially within the Yirgacheffe region with its lush forests and high elevation. This offers the perfect conditions for developing nuanced notes in Arabica coffee.

This coffee has a classic washed Ethiopian profile—bright, juicy, and sweet. The smallholders who produce it wash the cherries in co-op-owned washing stations. They then export directly, allowing for the separation of top coffee lots, higher prices for farmers and increased recognition. This results in the best quality coffees in Ethiopia. If you’re looking for a classic washed Yirgacheffe coffee, this is it.
