Arturo Paz represents a generation of young coffee producers in the Santa Barbara region committed to producing world-class specialty coffee. Having placed in the Cup of Excellence year-after-year, Paz’ La Colmena has blossomed into one of the top-producing farms in the country, and a personal favorite of ours at Verve.
Meaning “beehive”, in Spanish, Paz decided to name his farm “La Colmena” upon noticing the reoccurring sweetness of honey, in his bestscoring lots; an attribute he strives to foster in his coffees through the careful practices he employs at the farm and mill.
Not only is Arturo an exemplary producer, but a formidable cupper as well. When he’s not tending to his well-manicured lots of Yellow Catuai, Pacas and Bourbon; he’s managing quality at his uncle’s mill where Arturo, along with hundreds of farmers from the Santa Barbara region deliver and dry-mill their coffee for export.
